THE BENNETTS MONTHLY JANUARY '25
All things Bennetts and Coffee...
Happy New Year! As we embark on a new year, we are excited to deepen our connections within the coffee and tea industry, both here in Australia and across the globe. From the farmers who cultivate our beloved beverages to the roasters and retailers who bring them to life, we’re eager to listen, learn, and collaborate toward solutions that empower our valued customers, trusted suppliers, and industry partners. While external challenges—whether economic, environmental, or social—continue to shape our landscape, we remain committed to taking proactive steps to make a positive impact. We will continue to strengthen our partnerships with suppliers who share our vision for a sustainable supply chain, explore innovative ways to minimise our environmental footprint, and strive to be the first-choice partner for Australian coffee roasters and tea companies. Together, we aim to champion meaningful change by embracing new technologies, supporting the farmers at the heart of our industry, and engaging our customers on a shared journey toward a brighter, more sustainable future. Although we’re not providing a market report this month, we’re eagerly anticipating the chance to bring you a fresh report in February, where we’ll take stock of how the year is progressing. We recently conducted an extensive market report about two weeks ago, so be sure to revisit it for key insights. We're excited to see how the start of 2025 unfolds and what new opportunities it brings. Let’s continue making a difference in the lives of everyone connected to this industry we all love!
We’re thrilled to announce that our long-term partner Swiss Water will be hosting Swiss Water® Decaf Day on January 8th! This is a fantastic chance to celebrate decaf coffee and showcase your commitment to great-tasting, chemical-free Swiss Water® decaf. With the start of a new year, many customers are looking to adopt healthier habits, and reducing caffeine intake is often high on their list. What better time to let them know that decaf can still offer the full coffee experience without compromise? We encourage all our Swiss Water roasting partners to join the celebration in a few simple ways. First, on January 8th, share a post on your Instagram feed about your Swiss Water® decaf offering using the specially designed Swiss Water® Decaf Day image frame. Swiss Water has also provided some optional copy to help make your post shine (which can be downloaded here) You can also join Swiss Water for a special decaf “cheers” on your Instagram Stories at 4:00 PM ET on the day. Just snap a picture of the decaf coffee you’re enjoying and add it to their "Add Yours" story. It’s a fun and easy way to feel part of the larger decaf movement. For those looking to go the extra mile, consider hosting a decaf sampling or tasting at your café or roastery to broaden people's decaf horizons. Swiss Water is offering support materials and will even promote your event on their Stories—just reach out to them to get involved. Let’s come together and make Swiss Water® Decaf Day a day to remember. We’re excited to see everyone’s creative posts and celebrate the world of decaf in style! This February, Georgia and Julian are excited to embark on an enriching journey to origin, with their sights set on two of Central America's most renowned coffee-producing countries: Guatemala and Costa Rica. It’s been a few years since we last visited—our most recent trips to Guatemala were in 2020 and Costa Rica in 2019—so we are eager to see how these regions have progressed and evolved since then. We can’t wait to reconnect with our supplier partners and gain a deeper understanding of how the past few years have impacted coffee production in these areas. These trips are essential to building and maintaining strong, direct relationships with our partners at origin. Our visits to these countries allow us to gain a firsthand perspective on how farmers are responding to current market conditions and environmental challenges, as well as insight into their farming techniques, harvesting practices, and future projections for the coffee season ahead. In addition to learning from our partners, we are also reaffirming our ongoing commitment to sourcing sustainable, high-quality coffees for our customers. Each visit reminds us of the hard work and passion that goes into every cup, and there is no substitute for the face-to-face connections we make at origin. We’re excited to explore new opportunities, strengthen relationships, and gather stories to bring back to the team and our community. Be sure to keep an eye on our social channels for live updates and highlights from our trip to Guatemala and Costa Rica—there’s plenty to look forward to! Origin Trip - Costa Rica, 2019 UPCOMING COMPETITIONS Harry Ko has made it to the Top 6 Shoot Out for the 2025 Australian Brewers Cup Championship, and Jason Kim will be showcasing his skills in the finals of the 2025 Australian Coffee Roasting Championship. The competitions will take place in Melbourne over the weekend of February 1st and 2nd. Keep an eye on our socials for more details in the coming weeks, and don’t forget to wish them good luck if you see them around! The Dynamic Duo - Harry and Jason
