 Spring is here, and with it comes a new season of stories and updates from across the coffee world.

In this September edition, we’re celebrating Organic Awareness Month, unpacking the latest movements in our Market Report, and sharing the impact of our recent Grounds for Health auction. On top of that, we’re following Jason’s incredible journey as he gets ready to take the stage in Japan at the V60 Brewers Cup World Championship.

MARKET REPORT

If any of these terms in the market report are confusing, we urge you to use Investopedia to make sense of them. We have found it to be a brilliant tool when learning about all things trading, futures and currency.

The Arabica market began August at a near six-month low of 277.10 usc/lb (Dec 25 contract) before surging to 391.30 usc/lb on the 28th, ultimately closing the month at 386.10 usc/lb. In short, August delivered a remarkable rally of a scale rarely seen. One statistic making the rounds summed it up well:

August’s high–low swing of 114 usc/lb took six years to unfold a decade ago (2015).

For many in the trade who had grown accustomed to the easing market through May–July, this sudden reversal came as a shock.

As is often the case, Brazil was once again at the centre of attention. The 2025/26 harvest is now nearly complete across all major growing regions, but crop estimates have been revised downward in recent weeks. Current expectations for Arabica production sit between 35 and 36.5 million bags, depending on the source. Looking ahead to the 2026/27 crop, traders will be closely watching rainfall forecasts, which typically arrive from late September into early October. Thankfully, soil moisture is in better shape than some years gone due to an unusually wet and cold winter period, but that won’t stop the chatter and speculation of drought until the rains arrive, and the flowering occurs. Until then, there will be a lot of noise about the potential of Brazil’s next crop.

Meanwhile, across the United States, the “T-word” (tariffs) is again stirring the market. Recent news suggests the US Supreme Court may rule current tariffs unlawful, prompting roasters to tighten strategies by maintaining just-in-time inventories and avoiding longer positions. This dynamic has made nearby futures significantly more expensive than forward contracts, placing extreme pressure on physical inventories in North America. Court hearings about the tariffs are set for November… so who knows until then if there will be any reprieve.

Robusta saw a similar run to that of the Arabica market. Starting out the month at 3,331USD/MT, running up to 4,986USD/MT and closing out August at 4,815USD/MT.

The largest Robusta producer is Vietnam, and their forecasts for the upcoming harvest seem promising at an estimated 30 million bags. This is up from last year’s harvest of around 28 million bags thanks to positive weather and good investments at farm level. Over the past month or so Robusta has been riding the coat tails of the wild ride Arabica has been taking us on. Nonetheless, if we see no adverse weather issues in either of the major coffee producing origins of Brazil and Vietnam, we could see production return to a global surplus in the next year.

JASON HEADS TO JAPAN FOR THE V60 BREWERS CUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The countdown is on! After his incredible win at the 2025 Australian Hario V60 Championships in July, our very own Jason is now preparing to take on the world stage.

On Friday, September 26th, Jason will represent Australia at the Hario V60 Brewers Cup World Championship 2025, held during SCAJ 2025 in Japan. This year’s competition is extra special, as it marks the 20th anniversary of the iconic V60 Hario dripper.

Jason will be one of twelve national champions competing, with representatives from Brazil, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea Canada, Thailand, United Kingdom, and Taiwan. It’s set to be a thrilling showcase of brewing skill, innovation, and passion for coffee.

We’re incredibly proud of Jason’s journey so far and can’t wait to cheer him on as he steps onto the global stage. Good luck Jason—bring it home!
