THE BENNETTS MONTHLY OCTOBER '25

7 October, 2025

All Things Bennetts and Coffee...

As we welcome the new Coffee Year, October brings plenty to celebrate and reflect on across the coffee world.

In this edition, we take a look at the latest trends and movements in our Market Report, recap from the SCAJ in Tokyo, and celebrate Jason’s outstanding performance representing Australia on the world stage at the Brewers Cup Championships.

With so much happening across the industry, there’s no better time to dive straight in.

MARKET REPORT

If any of these terms in the market report are confusing, we urge you to use Investopedia to make sense of them. We have found it to be a brilliant tool when learning about all things trading, futures and currency.

The month of September gave free admission to the coffee roller coaster ride that was the market! Trading relatively sideways through the first couple of weeks, we saw huge ups and downs through the second half of the month that shows the volatility in coffee is still very much present.

Arabica’s December 2025 terminal started out September at 377.10usc/lb with the market topping out at 424.00usc/lb on the 16th of the month following a rally the day before of nearly 25c/lb. The day following on the 17th, we saw the market in free fall, dropping a staggering 35c/lb in one day! To break that down into market contract terms, that is a difference of 13,125USD (1 contract is worth 37,500lbs) in one day between the high and the low. A daily price drop that hadn’t been observed since 2008. The market closed out the month almost where we started off at 374.85usc/lb.

These huge moves came on the back of a few different pieces of news. Some to do with the industry, such as decent rains in Brazil and a resulting positive flowering, certified stocks down at 18-month lows and a potential delay to the EUDR regulations in Europe that could see more coffee flow to Europe in the coming months. Some not so much… as the market tumbled 10c/lb on the back of Donald Trump saying at the UN Assembly during his speech that he had “great chemistry” with Lula (Brazilian President). Interesting times.

Many of the trends seen in Arabica over the month of September, were also visible in the Robusta market, although the month closed out quite a bit lower than where it opened (important to note that this is when the Arabica and Robusta markets go out of timing with their terminal months). The November 2025 terminal opened the month at 4,800USD/MT, with a high on the 17th at 4,816USD/MT before closing the month out at 4,200USD/MT. News came and went of Typhoon Bualoi hitting the coffee regions of Vietnam towards the end of the month which, thankfully seemed to avoid main producing areas.

As we look to the month ahead, we remain attentive to the weather situations in Brazil. Trees require additional rains after the initial flowering to ensure the fixing of the fruit for the upcoming harvest. No doubt we will see more global and geo-political news shape the markets of our industry as we head to the end of the year.

SCAJ 2025 & HARIO V60 WORLD BREWERS CUP

A huge congratulations to our very own Jason for representing Australia at the Hario V60 Brewers Cup World Championship in Japan last month! While he didn’t make it through to the finals, Jason described the experience as an incredible opportunity to learn, connect, and compete alongside some of the world’s most talented brewers. Standing on the world stage and showcasing his skills among eleven other national champions was no small feat — and we couldn’t be prouder.

We’d also like to extend our congratulations to all the competitors who took part in this year’s championship. The passion, innovation, and craftsmanship on display were truly inspiring. Beyond the competition, the SCAJ proved to be fantastic event — a chance to reconnect with partners from across the globe and explore the latest ideas shaping the coffee industry. We’ll be sharing a more in-depth report on our time at SCAJ soon, including key takeaways and insights from the event.

COFFEE NEW YEAR

As we step into the 2025/26 Coffee Year, it’s hard to ignore just how extraordinary the past season has been. Market volatility reached unprecedented levels, with prices climbing to highs never seen before. These fluctuations have placed real pressure on roasters across Australia, making planning, pricing, and forecasting more challenging than ever. It’s a reminder of how interconnected and sensitive our global supply chain can be — and how resilient our industry continues to be in navigating it.

Looking ahead, while uncertainty may remain, our focus stays the same: supporting our customers with clarity, knowledge, and transparency. Whether through market insights, educational resources, or open conversations, we’re committed to helping our partners make informed decisions and adapt to the changing landscape. Here’s to a new Coffee Year filled with continued learning, collaboration, and the shared pursuit of great coffee — no matter what lies ahead.
